The DVD

A Midsummer Movies film directed by Jared Johnson.
35 Minutes, Region Zero (works in all dvd regions)

I was delighted to see this excellent and thought-provoking film out on dvd at last, and was well pleased with what I saw.

Besides the movie itself (presented in 16x9 Widescreen format), Harold Maines provides a nice little stable of extras, which if you're anything like me, add depth and background to a film. Of most interest to me was the collection of deleted scenes - ten in all - some of which make you wonder why they weren't included in the film, and some of which (Manure Moving!) don't but are hilarious none the less!

The film can be watched with commentary by the director, Jared Johnson, and actor Doug Nimrick who plays the owner of the stables where Harold worked and lives after his transfiguration. Commentaries are something you either love or hate, but if you enjoy hearing about the stories behind a film's creation, this one doesn't disappoint. A little more depth on how the story came about might have been nice, but a nice glimpse behind the scenes nevertheless.

Also included on the disc are the film's original trailer, and a slideshow of photos taken during production. I have to admit, the slideshow left me wishing it had been captioned although most of the pictures spoke for themselves.

Altogether a neat and satisfying package.
