An illusion only,
but this would probably satisfy ninety percent of all wouldbe equines (or all wouldbe
anythings come to that!). The success of such a system would naturally be dependent on
the level of sensory immersion into the virtual environment. Goggles and gloves really
wouldn't swing it: what we're really talking about here is some form of direct neural
communication between brain and computer. This needn't require anything as crude as an
actual plug-in cable: the brain generates electrical impulses which can be both sensed
and influenced by magnetic fields. A suitably sophisticated system in conjunction with
some sort of anaesthetic or nerve block applied to the subject's real body could really
provide that true equine experience - maybe recorded by similar sensory equipment fitted
to a real horse.
